The DFU mode, also known as the recovery mode, is used for many things and it is performed on iPhone, iPad and iPod. For example, when your device stops working properly, you have the option of entering the DFU mode. However, this option may bring you contact loss, other important apps, programs and many others. Therefore, before you decide to enter your phone in the recovery mode, you should think twice and use this possibility as the last resort.
You use DFU mode only when you want to downgrade the firmware on your iPhone, but one of the most important reasons why people put their device in the DFU mode is to jailbreak it.
